Bosch Preferred Training Provider for the CDR Technician and Data Analyst Certification Training Series

The courses listed below are the ONLY Bosch preferred CDR Operators Technician and Analyst courses. Don't be mislead by individuals proposing their "methodologies" class as having anything comparable to the content or material offered here. The classes below are the only Bosch preferred, standard CDR related courses available, anything else is "EDR Light." Completion of the CDR Technician Course is an absolute, required prerequisite for attendance at the CDR Data Analyst Certification course. Those who have attended a CDR Operator's Certification course prior to January 2008 will NOT have completed the equivalent of the Technician Level course and do not meet the prerequisite for the Data Analyst's Certification course. See complete course descriptions below for details.

Bosch preferred training provider, standardized CDR Technician Certification Course

This course offers the collision investigator insight into the fundamental operational function of the Bosch Crash Data Retrieval (CDR) System. At the end of this course, the CDR Technician will be expected to be able to image and preserve data in a format such that the CDR Data Analyst would be able to use that collected data together with a situationally complete reconstruction.  The CDR Technician course replaces a portion of the previously offered "CDR Operator's Certification Course" and does not go into any analysis of the data extracted/harvested. This course is best suited for field investigators, insurance investigators and adjusters or those involved in vehicle documentation and inspection and is the basis for and a required prerequisite for the CDR Data Analyst's course.

Major course topics include:

The overall operation of the CDR System to include evaluation of the vehicle being examined for download and application of the software and hardware to that vehicle for GM, Ford and Chrysler vehicles

Functions of the CDR program (program navigation, sections, components, mechanics of the download)
DLC and direct-to-module connection methods from start-to-finish

Access considerations for the PCM, ACM and ROS
Troubleshooting and solving hardware and software issues when using the Bosch CDR System

Hands-on, in class downloads of Airbag Control Modules (ACM) and Powertrain Control Modules (PCM)

Ownership of the Bosch CDR System, although strongly encouraged, is not required and the design of this course is such that even those who have not yet obtained a system will better understand this evolving technology and benefit from the information.

Course completion meets the requirements for recognition as the Bosch CDR System Data Collection Technician.

This course is conducted over a full 8 hours over 1 day starting at 8am and ending as late as 5:00pm/17:00hrs. It will not "end early."  Please make your travel arrangements to allow for ample time to get to the airport and go through security after the completion of the course - the class does not normally end earlier than 4:30-5:00PM.

Tuition: $175 (USD)

Instructors: Various approved trainers, including W. R. "Rusty" Haight and Brad Muir

CDR Data Analyst Certification Course

This course offers the collision reconstructionist who has completed the CDR Technician Course further insight into the function of the automobile Event Data Recorder (EDR) component, its history and evolution as well as interpretation skills enabling the application of a Bosch Crash Data Retrieval (CDR) System report to a situationally complete crash reconstruction.

Using traditional reconstruction techniques and typical admissibility hearing issues as the general basis for the course objectives, the CDR Data Analyst Certification course is both a natural extension of the CDR Technician training and an expansion of one's reconstruction skills. This course, together with the Technician course, replaces the previously offered "CDR Operator's Certification Course."
There is no hands on downloading activity in this class since it is assumed that those in attendance have recently completed the Technician course and understand that process along with the underlying concepts of data storage in the EDR component, CDR software troubleshooting and related error messages and their solution(s). For that reason, there is no need to bring a CDR System to this course. Activity in this course is focused on reading and understanding a CDR report then applying it to a normal situationally complete reconstruction.

Major course topics include:

General legal considerations (criminal and civil) related to CDR data admissibility

Types of data collected, generally for GM, Ford and Chrysler vehicles accessible using the most current version of the Bosch CDR System

Reading, interpreting and using the accessible GM, Ford and Chrysler vehicle CDR reports with a situationally complete collision reconstruction

Understanding, identifying and dealing with anomalous data from GM, Ford and Chrysler vehicle CDR reports

Ownership of the Bosch CDR System, although strongly encouraged, is not required and the design of this course is such that even those who have not yet obtained a system will better understand this evolving technology and benefit from the information assuming they have completed the Technician course.

Course completion - together with completion of the Technician course - meets the requirements for the Bosch approved CDR System Data Analyst individual certification.

This course is conducted over a full 32 hours over 4 days starting after 8am and ending at about 5:00PM/17:00hrs on the last day of the course.  Please make your travel arrangements to allow for ample time to get to the airport and go through security after the completion of the course on the last day.  Given the volume of material, this course does not usually end earlier than 4:30PM (1630hrs) on the last day and may run later depending on the course flow relative to the involvement and interest level of the students in attendance.

Tuition: $450 (USD)

Instructors: W. R. "Rusty" Haight and Brad Muir

CDR Course FAQ Page

In 2009, CSI conducted CDR courses in virtually every geographic region of the US and Canada. In some regions, we ran multiple class offerings during the year. For 2010, we continue to work to offer classes again in as many areas as possible in an effort to reach those interested in exploring this fast paced, quickly developing technology to its fullest.
